« "One day Ys will be reborn, more beautiful than ever." »

— Légende bretonne

Author’s Note
Sunken cities transcend the realm of mere fantasy: they constitute one of the most powerful archetypes of the human psyche. From ancient mythology to modern psychoanalysis, the submerged city remains the universal symbol of the unconscious, that reservoir of buried memories, repressed traumas, and forgotten beauties. While Atlantis remains the great founding myth of this universal archetype, its Breton counterpart, the city of Ys, is no less fascinating. Less famous but darker and more poetic, the legend of Ys embodies this tragic turning point where love and desire sink under the weight of fate. Between bitterness and innocence, tragedy and poetry, the work maintains a constant chiaroscuro. For beyond the tragedy of submersion, there remains the promise of resurgence: does not legend tell that one day, the city of Ys will rise again from the waves, more resplendent than ever?

« A city can sink without ceasing to exist in memory. A melody can disappear without ceasing to resonate. »

Publisher’s Note

This score is intended for three pianists wishing to explore their virtuosity while maintaining an overall balance. The writing spans the entire keyboard and calls upon both the power and the subtlety of the instrument. The three parts, of comparable difficulty, were conceived without hierarchy: each pianist takes turns in the foreground, accompanying, extending, or blending into the playing of the others. An ideal work for a trio seeking an original, spectacular repertoire, fully developed around the possibilities of three pianos.
